The club assembled in the early morning darkness among clouds of mosquitoes, a slight drizzle of rain and the threat of a tropical storm on the horizon. The eleven qualifying teams were ready to take on anything mother nature could throw at them except lightning bolts. After final instruction at the ramp for the order of take off and a 3pm weigh-in the teams spread out from the dam at Lake Washington to Lake Winder, Lake Poinsett, south river and north river from 520. The rain and wind which was predicted did not come into play as much but at short periods of time it did get a little heavy. There were no reports of problems from any team at the weigh-in.
The first place team of Mike Calloway and Cliff Semonski topped the field of anglers with a bag weighing 20.42 pounds after a dead fish penalty and was capped with a giant 7.47 pounder which also took big bass honors. They reported that most of their fish were caught flipping a sweet beaver with a Last Cast punch skirt closet to the river bank in middle river.
The second place team of Bob Barnette and Tom Southwick were the only team to decide to go north in the river from highway 520. The decision paid off with 19.15 pounds of bass and very little gas to get there. They reported that their limit came within the first 30 minutes of starting to fish using black and blue worms mostly.
The third place tema of Clyde Taylor and Raymond Taylor took the opposite end of the area and decided that running south almost to the Lake Washingon dam would be best. This paid off with 17.36 pounds of bass and a lot of gas. They reported that most of the fish came on red shad colored 8" ribbon tail worms on the turns of the river.
The other teams reported most fish were caught early but were consistent throughout the day.
The club would like to thank Strike Zone and past club member Jim Folks for providing a nice gift for the team of Jake and Gary Hinman who came in with the small creel bag of the tournament.
