The last super moon occurred sixty-eight years ago in 1948 and just as unusual as that was the club membership has grown to 25 teams and 50 members. With the addition of Michael and Justin Cunningham team number 25 and new members William Flood and Keith Braun, this is the first time in club history that the club has been full as allowed in the bylaws. The original club LERA or Lockheed Employees Recreational Association began over twenty-eight years ago on August 1, 1988 and has never had this many members.
Lake Blue Cypress welcomed us with cool temperatures and windy conditions to start the day but the eighteen teams who made the trip to highway 60 and down that long bumpy road to Middleton,s Fish Camp were rewarded with some beautiful lake conditions. After waking up some unsuspecting campers, the club members proceeded to take some nice bass from the lake including four over seven pounds , one five and two almost five pounders to prove that the lake can produce some really nice bass.
Justin Neal and Brian Wical recorded their first win of the season with a five bass limit weighing 18.21 pounds to easily out distance the other club members. Flippin creature baits all around the lake in every piece of heavy cover they could find, they were rewarded with one bass at 7.66 pounds which still did not make top big bass honors.
Fishing by himself, BJ Biles landed a five bass limit weighing 14.18 pounds to take second place. Junebug trick worms were his best bait of the day fished slowly around cypress trees accounted for all of his bass. Jackie will be sorry he missed this day but he had a good reason. BJ anchored his limit with a huge 7.90 pound Blue Cypress Lake big female to take Big Bass honors by a narrow margin of only 6 hundredths of a pounds. Wayne Smith, also fishing by himself and overcoming engine problems, landed the second largest bass of the day at 7.84 pounds using a junebug sinko deep inside the cypress trees on the west side near the ramp.
Buddy and Matt Byrd finished only 0.12 pounds back with a good limit weighing 14.06 pounds. They reported that Black and Blue Sinkos were their favorite bait. Their limit was anchored by a nice 3.91 pounder to go with the solid 2.5 pound average. Good job!!!
The Small Creel Award goes to Cliff Semonski and his new partner Keith Braun, with this years smallest legal bass and future swamp donkey weighing 0.79 pounds netting them some valuable prizes.
Other notable bass included a 7.24 pounder by Tim Iler and Larry Cruce and a 5.20 pounder by Mike Calloway and William Flood.
The day was not without problems , like Wayne Smith's engine not starting, but on the way home BJ Biles (2nd place and big bass winner) blew a tire on the boat trailer before getting to Fellsmere. No less than five members stop to help and between the nine of them came up with a jack, four way wrench which Justin Neal bent by hand, torque wrench, cheater bar, impact gun and BJ's spare tire to get him back on the road.
