The fourth tournament of the season occurred on January 14th on Lake Kissimmee. The tournament was originally scheduled for late last year, but weather got in the way forcing the club to reschedule for safety reasons. Unfortunately, the weather was quite different from the forecast for this event. The good news is the bass did not mind, but tournament members were faced with cold, rainy, and windy conditions. The weather had winds out of the north at 10+ mph. The water temperature was in the low sixties, and the air temp never got above 55. This tournament saw a large spread between 1st and 2nd place. The first place team also had a big bass caught by Alan Elder with a huge 7.14 lbs. lunker. He and Daville Williams secured a 21.55 lbs. bag for first place. Their chosen top bait was Yum/dingers. Second place went to Brian Cole and Brian Davidson (alternate) who landed a 12.94 lbs. bag using rat/traps and Senkos. Third place went to Roger Averill and Dustin Beard, who caught a 12.25 lbs. bag using trick worms. Roger needed to secure a place in the top three to help pay for the prop that came apart during the tournament … sorry Roger, but glad no one was hurt ☹. Congratulations to all team participants who chose to endure the weather conditions. Most teams chose to stay in lake Kissimmee while others chose to head as far north as Lake Toho. The MLF College Championship was held the week before and teams landed some impressive bags on the south side of Toho. Unfortunately, they left few for our club to catch. At least two of the top three teams chose to stay on Lake Kissimmee and secured a good bag of fish. North cove proved to provide some large lunkers for the tournament. After the tournament, members stayed for a short meeting and voted on the Harris Chain location/timing since the Toyota Series will have tournament on same day. The vote was unanimous to keep the schedule with no change. Fred Reid and John Kinchen won the two StrikeZone gift cards. Thanks goes to StrikeZone for their support and long-time sponsorship. The turnout for this event was 13 boats, so we are still a little low in membership. Hopefully more teams will join in for all the great fun and competition that tournament bass fishing provides. The next tournament will be at Garcia on January 28th. Geico will be sponsoring the next tournament at Lake Garcia
