The green water of the Harris Chain gave the club a tough run to find fish this season. The intermittent shad spawn was happening on Eustis on the south end of the lake for a few lucky boats to connect on. Lake Harris had been recently sprayed so the lily pads and hydrilla field on the NW side of Big Harris didn’t hold any fish for the club this year. The Griffin Lock was still broken, so there was no opportunity to fish there again this season. The big bites came from Lake Dora, Lake Eustis and Dora Canal to Lake Beauclair.
The club members got together on Friday night for a BBQ feast hosted by Eddie Dominguez at their Airbnb of good food, fishing stories and full stomachs for the weekend competition.
Saturday’s launch from Buzzard Beach had an Extreme Tournament launch thirty-one boats just before our club and we pushed our weigh in back to 4 p.m. to give ample time at the ramp. Big bass for Saturday was caught by David Fitts on the south shoreline of Eustis between Buzzard and Dora Canal flipping a Texas rigged worm in Kissimmee grass.
Sunday’s launch had another club of 10-12 boats launch before us and had a weigh in at 2 p.m. We moved our weigh in to 2:30 p.m. to get the club members on the road in a timely manner to get home, some had a 3 plus hour drive. The numbers were close for five teams in the tournament; the separation was a little over 1 ¼ lbs. Raymond Taylor had Big Bass on day 2 at 7.93lbs, this fish pushed him and William Flood to take the win overall.
The winners of the Strike Zone Gift cards were Thomas Taylor and Brandon Veasey. Please take some time to go check out Strike Zone for their inshore & offshore diverse tackle selections.
