The top ten teams and a wild card competed Sunday in LERA bass club's Classic tournament on the Kissimmee Chain at Lake Cypress. Out of those eleven only two teams were able to bring a 5 bass limit to the scales with a total of 28 bass weighed among all teams.
Jackie Barber, Cocoa, and B. J. Biles, Palm Bay, capped their club championship year by weighing one of the limits totaling 14.02 lbs to capture 1st place. The spread between 2nd and 4th place was extremely tight with only .16 lbs separating those three places. Second place went to Ralph Litton, Port St. Lucie, and Steve Bistarkey, Palm Bay, with 4 bass weighing 12.01 lbs. Clyde Taylor and Jeff Crews, both of Palm Bay, took 3rd place with 4 bass totaling 12.00 lbs including Taylor's big bass of the tournament weighing 7.11 lbs. If not for a dead fish penalty, Larry Cruce, Titusville, and Tim Iler, Port St. John would have won 2nd place with a limit weighing 12.10 lbs, but instead finished the day in 4th place with an adjusted weight of 11.85 lbs.
September begins the new season for LERA with the first tournament to be held at Lake Poinsett on the 27th.
